Alderman Mell Wouldn’t Screw Us, Would He?

Dick_MellAccording to the Chicago Sun-Times, Alderman Dick Mell is blocking a vote on a bill that would make privatization deals in the city more transparent and S L O W them down. “Introduced last November by Alderman Roderick Sawyer (6th), the Privatization Transparency and Accountability Ordinance has been bottled up in Ald. Dick Mell’s (33rd) Rules Committee, even though a majority of the City Council members have signed on as co-sponsors. The ordinance would require a hearing on privatization proposals involving an asset valued at $250,000 or more. It also would require a cost-effectiveness study, competitive bidding and other reforms. Until now, plans to privatize services or assets have tended to stay under the radar until the last moment, keeping public scrutiny to a minimum.”

The Alderman wouldn’t screw the good people of Chicago, would he? Oh, wait – he already pushed his son-in-law, Rod B., into office – first as a State Rep, then as a Congressman, then as Governor. Do us a favor, Alderman, retire (but DON”T put any more of your children or relations into public office) and get out of the way of this needed reform.
