According to the web site of Illinois State Comptroller there are “approximately” (we can’t seem to get an exact count) 943 TIF districts in the state of Illinois in 2010. These TIF districts were distributed across “more than” 360 municipalities. Also on her web site is a PDF of TIF districts that are in “non-compliance” for NOT filing required reports and paperwork. In 2010 414 TIFs were in “non-compliance.” That’s 44% OF ALL TIFs IN ILLINOIS.
